This is the hard top version of the Land Rover Defender XD 110 'Wolf.' The hard top is a lot taller than that on the standard Land Rover Defender 110 because of the larger roll bar fitted underneath it, designed to enable the vehicle to roll over sideways without causing injury to the crew.

The hard top 'Wolf' had been used extensively in Bosnia, with SFOR (Stabilisation Force) white markings over the standard green and black disruptive pattern camouflage. They have also been widely used in Iraq and Afghanistan where they are oversprayed with a temporary sand coloured paint which is removable with a high pressure hose. In service the sand colour paint comes away in areas where the soldiers rub against the vehicle, exposing the green paint underneath. At the start of the conflict in Afghanistan the vehicles were painted green and black with ISAF markings.

These vehicles are also used by the Royal Marines who have a waterproofed version. On these the external air intakes on either side of the bonnet are removed and replaced by a large snorkel tube on the right had side of the vehicle.
